1955 HUSKY
1955 HUDSON HUSKY - Graduation Number
This souvenir booklet was published just prior to 8th-grade graduation at Hudson School on June 15, 1955. Most of those graduating 8th grade continued that Fall at Puente Union High School (which was across the street), forming the nucleus of the Puente High Class of 1959. Smaller numbers of students graduated 8th grade in 1955 from Walnut, Rowland, and St. Joseph schools.
Each Hudson student was asked to supply the following information: name, birthdate, nickname, favorite subject, favorite sport, after-school activities, ambition, and year of enrollment in the Hudson district. Students' ambitions ranged from "Air Force Test Pilot" and "Electronical Engineer" to "Mombo Dancer", and "Be like Captain Jet".
The HUSKY was mimeographed onto ordinary sulfite paper. The few surviving copies are yellowed, with the purple mimeographed text now considerable faded; hence the poor quality of the images below. The original name listings were not quite in alphabetical order, and a few of the entries have been moved to other pages to more nearly conform to alphabetical order on this website. A very few spelling or typing errors have been corrected in black.
Note that a page it missing - the page containing latter part of the "J" names and the early "K" names.
The remarks by Principal Robert Deal included a statement that in 1946 there were 76 kindergarteners in the Hudson school district, of whom 26 were among the graduates in 1955. These numbers excluded students at Walnut, Rowland, and St. Joseph schools. The eventual La Puente High School Class of 1959, totaling 415 students, included only 31 who had attended kindergarten through 12th grade in the high-school district. Most of the 31 attended kindergarten at Hudson, and a few at Central.
