This blog has been created in order to make available to a wider audience some elementary-school class pictures from the Puente area in southeastern Los Angeles County, from the mid-1940's to the mid-1950's. CLICK on the school years shown near the top of this page to see the class pictures for each school year. Don't forget the MORE listings at the right-hand end. The individual elementary schools are described on the SCHOOLS page.
The classes shown are mostly those from what became the nucleus of the La Puente High School Class of 1959, but some are also included from other high-school years. The "cohort" year refers to the year of potential high-school graduation for students making normal progress through school. Many of the students shown did not graduate from Puente/La Puente High School in the "cohort" year, due to moves to other school districts, repeating years, skipping years, or dropping out of school.
Acknowledgements are due to those who have provided their old class pictures. From the 1959 cohort, these include: Carol Aton, Carol Bagley, Fred Barnard, Barbara Guest, Frank Hatfield, Carolyn Lea, Ann Marengo, Valerie Martinez, Barry Miller, Ted Oliver, Diane Offutt, Marcia Roddewig, Betty Jo Sparks, Rodney Van Pelt, and Nancy Webb. Contributors from other cohorts are: Alfred Barnard (1956), and Mitch Telson (1960). A number of other Puenteans have helped to identify the faces of their former classmates. Can you ID (or correct) any of those pictured ?

The class pictures and names shown here are PUBLIC-DOMAIN information, since they were publicly disseminated over 60 years ago, with the information published in local newspapers and other public documents. If someone was embarrassed by their picture, their family should have done something about it at the time ! Most of us, however, enjoy seeing our friends, relatives, and selves as they were then, as innocent(?) schoolchildren.

I try to keep track of everyone in my high-school class (La Puente HS 1959). Can you please tell me when he died ? And was he still living on Siesta in West Covina, with your mother Olga Lidia ? A lot of our people are passing away, now that we're in our late 70's, mostly from various types of cancer.
